The Society of Photographic Education (SPE) at Western Washington University is
excited to present their third show, The Feeling of Being. With the mission of making art
education and professional practices accessible, SPE has cultivated a unique group of artists
spanning various majors, backgrounds, and experience levels which is part of what makes their
shows so special. Featuring 16 artists, pieces from the show include long-standing photographic
practices such as cyanotype printing and tin type, to contemporary methods like digital collage to
explore ideas of what “being” truly means as we navigate the human experience.
SPE takes great pride in facilitating gallery showing experiences for WWU students and
alumni. Through hosting guest speakers, workshops, and lectures, SPE provides comprehensive
education on all aspects of gallery preparation so budding artists are well prepared for this show
and any other professional gallery endeavors they embark on. With countless barriers into the art
world, SPE has been working to remove as many as possible.
With a passion for connection and supporting the arts, SPE encourages you to join them
for a celebratory reception on July 10th from 5:00pm-10:00pm. While the program provides
technical skills and knowledge, it is the community they have created that makes them stand out.
Biggest thanks to Kelly Sorbel and all of the incredible artists for making this show possible.
