Gallery Hanging Requirements & Standards of Quality
The following is a guide to showing your work at Make.Shift Art Space. We love working with new artists and hope to educate those early in their career on professional standards of presentation.
How to Hang Your Art
If you are submitting 2-D artwork to our gallery, please check out this video on how to prepare your artwork to hang at Make.Shift.
The Make.Shift Gallery reserves the right to exclude any work that does not meet our stated hanging requirements. Pictured here are acceptable types of hanging hardware.
Other policies
All work should be submitted with the following information attached: Your Name, Your City of Residence, Title of Piece, Year Finished, Medium(s), and Price. Make.Shift takes a 35% commission on all sales and charges WA State retail sales tax. Please factor this into your listed price, so that you are adequately compensated for your work.
Please be aware that our deadlines are firm because we work on a tight schedule. We will not be able to make exceptions for late submissions.
The Make.Shift Gallery does not accept work that promotes racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or any other forms of hate or exclusion. We prioritize works created by local, emerging, and marginalized artists. We are primarily looking for art that is fresh, innovative, and critically engaged. We reserve the right to exclude any piece of work that does not align with our ethics or aesthetic.
If you have an idea for a solo or small group show, please submit an Art Show Proposal at the top of this page. The Gallery Committee meets monthly. We will review your submission as soon as possible and contact you regarding any further details.
All that being said, we do hope you submit your work to be displayed in our gallery. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please don't hesitate to contact the Gallery Director at gallery@makeshiftproject.com.
